Tomakomai is in a mild area on the Pacific Ocean that receives less snowfall than any other parts of Hokkaido. The snowfall is about one-quarter of that for Sapporo, and the number of days each summer when the temperature exceeds 30℃ can be counted on one hand.

Approximately 3,200 hectares (30%) of the Area is green space.

Tomatoh extends 8 kilometers east-west and 12 kilometers north-south. The 10,700 hectares that is planned for development is split between Tomakomai City, Atsuma Town and Abira Town.
Tomatoh consists of gentle hills, lowlands, rivers, lakes and marshes. Various broad leaf and conifer trees are distributed throughout. All this makes for a lush, natural landscape.
These spaces serve as buffer zones and disaster control space, and they improve the living environment. They’re also used as places for recreation and relaxation.

Low Heating and Cooling Costs

As the Tomatoh Area is surrounded on three sides by hills that connect to nearby mountain ranges and faces the Pacific Ocean to the south, the climate is cool in summer and relatively mild in winter. The snowfall is roughly one-fourth that for Sapporo, presenting very little to obstruct plant operation and transportation. Moreover, the annual costs for air-conditioning and heating in Hokkaido are less than those in Tokyo and Osaka.
