Tomakomai City is occupied by about 170,000 residents. Amidst great natural splendor, it continues to grow as the core city of south-central Hokkaido. It has proclaimed itself “a city for people and the natural environment,” reflecting its citizens’ determination to achieve a safe, healthy, pollution-free, urban environment where people come first. The city has infrastructure for education, as well as for healthcare, welfare and culture.

Tomakomai City is developing residential land in order to encourage home ownership. And ample public housing is provided. Many employees of corporations located in Tomatoh have already built homes and decided to settle permanently in the Area.

When we coexist with nature, it gives us a feeling of well-being and comfort. Tomatoh coexists with nature, yet it's only a short 10 kilometers from the center of Tomakomai, allowing for convenient commuting on the area's well-maintained highways. The short commutes allow you to enjoy more time with the family and provide the ideal environment for safely raising healthy, happy children.

Just east of Tomatoh, Lake Utonai is 17 kilometers around, with a depth of 1.2 meters. Nearly 150 wild bird species can be seen year-round. During the spring and autumn migrations, the area is a haven for wildfowl, with upwards of 20,000 whooper swans, wild geese, wild ducks and other birds. Bird blinds allow visitors to see these amazing animals up close and to deepen their connection with nature.
