The Tomakomai East Area is on the Pacific Ocean, in south central Hokkaido, northern Japan. At 42°40' North latitude and 141°45' East longitude, it is at the same latitude as Mukden (China), New York and Chicago (USA), and Rome (Italy).

New Chitose Airport, which is near the Tomatoh Area, has direct flights to 26 Japanese cities and regular flights to foreign cities including Seoul, Shanghai and Hong Kong. Flights to other foreign cities, such as those in Russia and East Asia will be increased. Chitose is geographically near North America and Europe. New Chitose Airport is expected to be a major international airport in Japan.

The Tomatoh Area is about 8 km from the Tomakomai East IC on the Trans-Hokkaido Expressway. In the area, there are three interchanges of the Hidaka Highway. Plus, National Highways 36, 234 and 235 run through the surrounding area. Tomakomai Station is a hub for major trunk lines. It provides convenient railway transport to Honshu.

The Port of Tomakomai, which is the largest port in northern Japan, handles 45% of the cargo that passes into or out of Hokkaido, and its West Port has regular service to major Japanese harbors. Its East Harbor handles large ships in the 90,000-ton class and has a regular international container service to North America and Southeast Asia.
