At our Tomatoh Plant, we have introduced one of the largest off-site PPA (self-consumption type) mega-solar systems in Hokkaido, snow-resistant carport-type mega-solar panels with bifacial modules, and a biomass boiler utilizing wood chips.

• Launching a New Medical Device Plant under the “Hokkaido Initiative”

  We have newly established a medical device manufacturing plant in the Tomatoh area, and operations commenced in July 2024. The new plant is designed as a highly productive “smart factory,” featuring advanced and automated manufacturing processes to meet the rapidly growing global demand and to further expand our business.
  The key factors in selecting the Tomatoh area include its excellent accessibility by land, sea, and air, its well-developed infrastructure, and the availability of vast land that allows for future expansion.

• Establishing the First Biomass Power Plant in the Tomatoh Area

  Equis Group is engaged in renewable energy and infrastructure development across the Asia-Pacific region. In partnership with Hokkaido Electric Power Co., Inc., we have constructed a 50 MW biomass power plant primarily fueled by imported wood pellets, with commercial operations commencing soon.
  This stable renewable energy source contributes to achieving Japan’s 2050 carbon neutrality goals. The Tomatoh area offers excellent port access, making it highly attractive for fuel import logistics.

• Establishing the First Grain Whisky Distillery in the Tomatoh Area

  We are a subsidiary of Venture Whisky Ltd., the producer of well-known whisky brands such as “Ichiro’s Malt” in Chichibu, Saitama Prefecture. Triggered by logistics disruptions during the COVID-19 pandemic, we explored the establishment of a new distillery to produce grain whisky in-house, which had previously relied on imports.
  The Tomatoh area was selected for its excellent access to Tomakomai Port with North American routes and New Chitose Airport, its vast land suitable for future expansion, and abundant high-quality water resources. Tomakomai’s cool climate, combined with temperature variations necessary for whisky maturation, makes it an ideal location.

• Launching the Development of an International Food Logistics Hub in Hokkaido

  Our company was established in December 2017 with the aim of developing a large-scale refrigerated and frozen warehouse capable of handling multiple temperature zones at Tomakomai Port, one of Japan’s major cargo gateways and Hokkaido’s primary seaport.
  By leveraging this port-based facility, we seek to enhance the added value of Hokkaido’s food products, promote exports, and improve logistics efficiency, while fostering a food industry cluster around the port. The Tomatoh area’s proximity to New Chitose Airport and its low snowfall make it an attractive logistics location year-round.

  As a logistics base for Komeri, a major home improvement retailer in Japan, our company operates distribution centers nationwide. We opened our tenth large-scale distribution center in 2017, with full operations commencing in April 2018.

  Our company operates a comprehensive recycling business throughout Hokkaido. To further recover valuable resources from shredder dust and reduce landfill disposal, we opened a new recycling plant in September 2023. The facility is equipped with state-of-the-art sorting equipment, enabling high-yield recovery of valuable materials such as metals and plastics.

• Establishing a New Manufacturing Base to Expand Business in Hokkaido

  Since our founding in 1973, we have been engaged in construction and piping work for nuclear and thermal power plants, as well as various industrial facilities. With the construction of a next-generation semiconductor plant, we established our first manufacturing base in Hokkaido, located in the Tomatoh area.
  The area’s proximity to semiconductor facilities, industrial concentration, and excellent access to Tomakomai Port make it a strategic location. We aim to expand into growth fields in Hokkaido, including semiconductor-related, energy, and GX initiatives.

• Constructing the “Hokkaido Tomakomai AI Data Center,” a Core of the Next-Generation Social Infrastructure

  As a core element of our “Next-Generation Social Infrastructure” initiative, aimed at decentralizing data processing and power consumption from the Tokyo and Osaka metropolitan areas, we are constructing a state-of-the-art AI data center with large-scale computing infrastructure in the Tomatoh area.
  The facility will operate as a green data center powered entirely by renewable energy and will support generative AI and other AI-related businesses. The Tomatoh area’s proximity to New Chitose Airport, low snowfall, cool climate, and potential as a landing point for trans-Pacific submarine cables make it a strong candidate for an international data distribution hub.
